How to keep your washing machine clean and limescale-free
Learn the essential steps for keeping your washing machine clean and limescale-free. We offer practical tips and routine maintenance strategies to help extend its lifespan and optimize performance.
Clean the drum and drawer regularly
It is essential to clean the drum and drawer compartments of your washing machine to prevent limescale, mold, and dirt from building up. Start by removing your clothes from the drum and emptying the drawer.
Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water, then wipe the drum and the drawer with a soft cloth or sponge. Rinse with clean water to remove any residue.
Use a limescale remover for stubborn deposits
If you notice stubborn limescale in your washing machine, it is important to address the problem as soon as possible. Use a limescale remover specifically designed for washing machines.
Follow the product’s instructions and apply it to the affected areas where possible, such as the drum and around the heating element. Let it sit for the recommended time, then wipe it off with a damp cloth.
Clean the rubber door seal and filter regularly
The rubber door seal and filter of your washing machine can easily accumulate mold and dirt if not cleaned regularly. Wipe the rubber door seal with a mixture of water and bleach or mild detergent to remove any mold or dirt.
Locate the filter at the bottom of the machine and remove any debris. Rinse the filter under running water to ensure it is clean before re-installing it.
Run an empty wash with vinegar
To keep your washing machine in the best condition possible, it is a good idea to run an empty wash every few months. Fill the drum with hot water and add two cups of white vinegar. Run the machine on a hot cycle with no laundry. Vinegar will help remove limescale residue, kill bacteria, and eliminate unpleasant odors.
Leave the door open after each use
After using your washing machine, be sure to leave the door open for a while so it can dry off. This simple step will help prevent mold and mildew from forming and will keep your washing machine clean and odor-free.
