    GE Repair

GE Appliances is an American home appliance manufacturer based in Louisville, Kentucky. It is owned by Haier Smart Home Company — a public subsidiary of Haier Company acquired from General Electric in 2016. Haier has the right to use the GE trademark until 2056.

GE Appliances is one of the biggest home appliance manufacturers in the USA with several brands under manufacturing, including GEGEProfile, Café, Monogram, Haier, and Hotpoint (only in North America and South America, the rights in Europe belong to Whirlpool Corporation). The company also owns FirstBuild — a CoCreate community, and a microplant at the campus of the University of Louisville, Kentucky. Another first assembling area is located in South Korea, while the Indian first assembling area was opened in 2019.

GE Appliances has a long history of culinary innovations and invented the first self-cleaning oven, as well as the first high-power microwave oven. Moreover, GE Appliances was the first manufacturer of a set of devices with a Wi-Fi connection, as well as the first set of devices with IFTTT support. As voice assistants have been spreading rapidly, GE Appliances became the first US manufacturer with Amazon Echo (2017) and Google Home (2017) support.

    STORY
Initially, GE Appliances was a part of General Electric — the company that started to sell a full range of heating and cooking products in 1907. In January 2004, it became a part of GE Consumer & Industrial, when GE Consumer Products (founded in 1905) merged with GE Industrial Systems (founded in 1930) to become GE Consumer & Industrial. From 2010 till the end of 2014, GE Appliances & Lighting was a unit in GE Home & Business Solutions.

On September 8, 2014, General Electric agreed to sell the Electrolux company to a Swedish and second-biggest home appliance manufacturer after Whirlpool Corporation for $3.3 billion in cash. The contract had a provision for a $175 million termination charge in case if Electrolux is not able to complete the acquisition. In December 2015, the deal was declared off when the US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit to block the acquisition because together with Whirlpool, it would control 90% of the DIY kitchen appliance reseller market.

On June 6, 2016, Quingdao Haier company (now Haier Smart Home Company) acquired GE Appliances for $5.6 billion. According to the terms of sale, Haier had the right to use the GE trademark until 2056. In 2017, GE Appliances published a new tagline (good things, for life) as a reminder about its history with General Electric that used the tagline "We Bring Good Things to Life" from 1979 to 2003.
